Travel Module: Ladakh Cultural Journey

Introduction

Surrounded by the mightiest mountain ranges of the world, in the northernmost Province of India, which is accessible only with difficulty, is Ladakh one of the highest inhabited regions on earth. The sparsely populated, barren valleys are located at an average altitude of 3500 m. An unique, highly civilized culture has developed here, which is greatly being influenced by the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. Like oases seem Ladakh's quaint mountain villages, which are framed by a mosaic of green fields in the vast, spectacular and barren mountain desert of the high plateau.

The Tibetan cultural heritage has been able to assert itself in Ladakh up until today. One can find here, in contrast to Tibet, many well-preserved and actively used monasteries. The deep roots in Tibetan Buddhism characterize the spirit of the amiable Ladakhi people, and are also expressed in the close ties between humans and nature. Discover this fascinating place with our experienced guides, stay in the most beautiful hotels or on request also as a house-guest, and travel in comfortable vehicles with experienced drivers. Visit with us nomads with their herds of yaks, sheep and pashmina goats, and observe with a little luck the rare black-necked cranes.

Time and again you have the possibility to make smaller, scenic walks and hikes. Our well tended- to local contacts allow you deep insights into the world of the Himalaya mountain range and the people of Ladakh. Finally, you will also discover the scenically unique region of Zanskar. In Srinagar finally you will spend one night on a luxury houseboat on the peaceful Lake Nageen before you fly back to Delhi.

May / June to September / October. In July and August is the peak season - during the day it can also be more than 30 degrees. At night the temperatures drop by up to 20 degrees. The snowline in July / August is at about 5500 - 6000m. For cultural highlights also the time off the travel season is recommended, because the climate is very dry, and rainfall is rare.
